Thank's Ed, for the new word - Giving respect
I did little research on the word, which is derived from ancient Greek and Roman traditions, which referred to gifts given to guests or strangers as a sign of hospitality. The root "xeno-" relates to foreigners or strangers. So, historically, it was more about offering hospitality or gifts to visitors.
As a coach, I like the idea that we are offering gifts by giving respect.
I was reflecting on the distinction between 'giving respect' and 'being respectful'. Giving respect seems to be unconditional (to me), regardless of our opinions or beliefs. Being respectful may well be the same, but I sense it is not.
Do you think there is a difference?
