Why announce?
Something that I keep thinking about since January is why would Mossad publicly announce that they're on the ground among Iranians and why would they take responsibility for arming Iranians? Why did the U.S. and Israel publicly acknowledge supporting an armed uprising in January when most protesters were unarmed and the armed uprising never materialized. I'm not blaming either country for the IRGC's repression, but those public statements gave the regime justification to portray protesters as foreign agents and intensify its crackdown. This has damaged the credibility of future Iranian uprisings, making genuine domestic resistance easier to dismiss as foreign propaganda. Ultimately, why were intelligence operations publicly disclosed to begin with? At best, it was counterproductive and stupid, and at worst a deliberate attmept to get the regime to commit a massacre to justify the war that followed
