So yesterdays discussion of fire festivals and celebrations got me googling fire festivals around the world. The one I was most familiar with is the Gaelic "Beltane" which is traditionally celebrated on May Eve or April 30th. But I discovered another in the British Isles https://www.uphellyaa.org/ It's a Shetlander holiday, although it's already passed. What's interesting about it is that it only goes back to the 1880s and takes place in late January. What I like about this is that it shows the way in which culture can evolve and new traditions can be created, and reminds us that culture is something that we create not just inherit. I would love to know what everyone favorite Spring holiday or fire festival is?
