Why Zhuyin Phonics Matters
Hi guys, FYI, I work from home, which means I get to spend some time in the kitchen and watch a few cooking shows lol. When I see chefs build layers upon layers of different flavors into a dish, it reminds me why I insist on teaching Zhuyin phonics. These sounds are like the base layers of a soup — simple yet essential. By mastering them, we can build layer upon layer of sounds, just like creating a rich, flavorful dish. Imagine a soup without broth or salt — it’s still edible, but it doesn’t taste nearly as good. ✨ So, don’t worry if it feels small or simple at first — these base layers are what make your Mandarin speaking stronger in the long run. ✨ Hope you enjoy the process and have fun building your Mandarin skills! Good morning, everyone! 👋 How has your week been so far? Great news! 🎉You’re now learning the last group of Zhuyin sounds!! Amazing job sticking with the challenge — you’ve come so far! 🔥 Today’s group is the medial vowels: 👉 一 ㄨ ㄩ 👈 一 (yī) • sounds like “ee” (as in see) / lips relaxed ㄨ (wū) • sounds like “oo” (as in food) / lips rounded ㄩ (yū) - one of the trickiest sounds for beginners — but don’t worry, I’ll break it down for you 😊 Step 1: round your lips Step 2: keep your tongue flat Step 3: say “yu” with rounded lips 👉 That gives you ㄩ 💡These vowels are called "Medial" so it can be used on their own or combined with consonants and other vowels. 🔊 Listening Challenge Can you recognize the sound? Vote below !! 💬 Question Which one feels the most confusing? 一 / ㄨ / ㄩ Tell me in the comments!

Zhuyin Phonetic Challenge—Day 11
Hi everyone! 👋Welcome back to Day 11 of our Zhuyin challenge. Today we’re looking at the last vowel(final) sound in Mandarin: ➰ㄦ-----This sound is often written as “er” in pinyin. Many learners get confused between ㄜ and ㄦ, because they can sound similar at first. 💡 Tip Try saying “ㄦ” while slightly curling the tip of your tongue back. ㄜ (ē) - relaxed “uh” sound. - tongue stays NEUTRAL. - ex: 鵝(ㄜ↗) - Goose. ㄦ (ér) - “er” sound - tongue CURLS slightly back (retroflex). - ex: 兒子(ㄦ↗)( ㄗ.)- Son. You’ll hear them in sentences like: 我看到一隻鵝(ㄜ↗)。(I saw a goose.) or 我看到你的兒子(ㄦ↗ ㄗ.)。(I saw your son.) Even though ㄜ and ㄦ may sound similar to beginners, the context makes the meaning clear. 🔊 Listen to the audio and vote for the correct answer. We’re getting close to the end of the challenge — great job sticking with it! 🔥
