My barber is better than 99% of marketers and salesmen.
I went to a NEW barber last week.
(It was as frightening as you can imagine.)
Luckily, this guy was an absolute legend.
High energy, friendly banter.
Rare coming from a barber (at least where I'm from.)
I sat down in the chair and as he examined my hair...
...he had this concerning look on his face.
Barber:
"Your hair's a bit oily."
Me:
"Not that much... is it?"
I didn't think so.
I'd washed it less than 24 hours ago.
Barber:
"I can make it work... but... I hope the scissors don't slip and mess up the cut."
Deeply concerning look still on his face.
Followed by 4 seconds of us just looking at each other through the mirror.
Barber:
"We can get it shampooed and washed up in less than 5 minutes."
Ahhh now I see.
My hair was honestly not that oily.
But I bit the bullet anyway.
Not necessarily because I was scared of the fckn scissors slipping.
But because I respected the salesmanship.
He did everything right...
- Good energy
- Built rapport
- Pointed out a potential problem
- Presented the solution
Good at his craft too.
One of the best fades I've ever gotten.
The most important thing that stood out to me was his energy and his eye for money making opportunities.
I like that.
He's my new barber for the foreseeable future.
Take this as a reminder to make the most of every customer.
And if you have a genuinely helpful solution... shamelessly squeeze every dollar out of them lol.
Happy Monday!
