I wanted to share something that happened and maybe encourage you on your journey. I was at a government office filling out some forms and there was a Spanish speaking woman there with her daughter trying to file some paperwork. She spoke no English and the clerk did not speak Spanish. I told her I spoke some Spanish and asked her if I could help. Both she and the clerk were very grateful that with my limited Spanish I could help resolve the situation. I came away feeling happy that I was able to use what I studied almost a year for to help others and so grateful be able to use it in real life.

Pues, he tenido una conversación toda en español esta tarde. Hablé con mi peluquera de El Salvador. Pregunté sobre su hijo y qué estaba estudiando. También pregunté sobre su viaje a El Salvador para ver a la familia y a viejos amigos. Incluso hicimos bromas. Esta es la primera vez que hice un chiste. Entendí todo lo que dijo, excepto cuando me pidió si va a llover mañana. Pensé que ella dijo “llegar.” Estoy alegre porque intenté y tuve éxito.
