A blessed new year to you all in 2026.
I thought I would share a simple journal entry of mine that came from reading Matthew 12.
Jesus makes these three statements to those Jewish religious rulers who were challenging His authority —“But I say to you, that something greater than the temple is here (12:6) — Behold, something greater than Jonah is here (12:41) — Behold, something greater than Solomon is here (12:42).” Jesus was making a very powerful point to them: He was and is greater than the temple, Jonah and Solomon—individually and combined. He came to fulfill the OT covenant with God’s people, the nation of Israel—the believing remnant. His incarnate presence on earth as the eternal son of the living God is what Jesus is referring to. He also said—“The kingdom of God is at hand”. His work of saving, healing and delivering people from sin and sickness and bondage. God gave to Israel the temple and it was magnificent. God used Jonah to preach to the Ninevites God’s judgment and they repented at his preaching. God gave to Solomon wisdom and wealth beyond anyone else. Yet, Jesus was and is still greater than all these together and more. Jesus is still greater than all the religious founders who came after him, like Mohammed and Krishna and Buddha et al.
Secondly, Jesus said in Matthew 12:12—“How much more valuable then is a man than a sheep! So then, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” Jesus argues with the Jewish authorities that to heal a man with a withered hand on the Sabbath is a no brainer, considering that they would rescue one of their sheep if it has become distressed on the Sabbath by falling into a pit and unable to get out. Human beings are not animals. Men and women are more valuable than animals. We are created in the image of God, whereas, animals are not. Evolution is a lie that has been taught in the West now for almost a century. Scripture always comes out on top when it comes to truth.
