Welcome — Maker, Introduce Yourselves
I’m usually more of a grumpy craftsman than a cheerful social media manager, but I wanted to create a space specifically for discussion around things I care about — LARP scenography and production design within the live environment. Over the years, moving between different associations, I’ve discovered that there are far more craftsmen and passionate builders in LARP than people might imagine. This space is for them too. My hope is that this becomes a place where people who enjoy sharing experiences and exchanging ideas can find some meaningful conversation. So this thread is for introductions. Say whatever you like (within reason 😄). I’ll start. I’m Marcello, usually called Mars. I’ve been doing LARP for about nine years and have worked as a prop maker, SFX makeup artist, and set dresser in film industry. I tend to take a lot of notes about my work because my memory is terrible, and for a while I’ve wanted to turn those notes into something readable. So… here we are.

I Vanished. I'm Back. Let's Make Weird Things Again.
Yes, I disappeared. No dramatic reason, just the beautiful chaos of real life: a complicated move (or two), a new job, and the general feeling that the universe decided to rearrange everything at once. But here's the thing about being buried under boxes and life changes, maker still make stuff. Experiment. Get weird ideas at 11pm and somehow end up with a half-finished latex mask and no clear memory of how it started. So here I am. Back. And the backlog of things I want to share with you is genuinely embarrassing. Behind the Bars (Work in Progress)
Working on something I can’t fully show yet. We’ve built several props for an upcoming event (still under wraps), but i like one in particular way, a proper cage! Solid, atmospheric, rusty and just uncomfortable enough to do its job. It also gave me the chance to test a more practical way of documenting the process. Less theory, more workshop logic. If that sounds useful, I might turn it into a short breakdown soon. Have you ever built something knowing it would be heavily used or abused? Did you overbuild it, simplify it, or accept future repairs as part of the plan?

Refining the Writing
Working on Jackalope right now also means revision. After the first guides, written instinctively and over long stretches of time. I’m focusing on refining the writing so ideas are clearer and easier to read. This phase is about improving flow, structure, and clarity, making the content easier to read and easier to understand, while I keep annoying my friends by asking for opinions and feedback.

Burlap!
Sometimes all you need is jute. Not as a miracle solution, but as one of those materials that quietly saves scenes more often than it should. I’ve published another pragmatic guide on hiding modern elements with less.Nothing fancy. Just things that actually survive use.
