Can someone help me with the math. I’ve got both of these usually add like .1 to a 100g formula but o want to just add it to my solvent for when I do dilutions etc. I’ve got a bottle of solvent a little under 1kg. How much do you guys add to yours?
♨️ WEEKLY PERFUME CHALLENGE: STEAM ♨️
Since it is unbearably hot outside this week, I figured we might as well embrace it. 😂 This week’s challenge is a little more abstract. Rather than recreating the smell of a flower, food, or traditional perfume structure, we are going to try to recreate a physical sensation through scent. THE CHALLENGE: CREATE STEAM Think about stepping into a hot steam room. The air is thick. Warm. Humid. Almost heavy. Moisture hangs in the air and collects on every surface. But what does steam actually smell like? Technically… not much. And that is exactly what makes this challenge interesting. Your job is to use aroma materials to create the illusion of hot, humid, expanding air. We aren’t necessarily trying to create a beautiful perfume. We are trying to manipulate how someone perceives what they are smelling. THE RULES You may use a maximum of 6 materials. Your accord must include: 💧 1 material for humidity or moisture 🔥 1 material for warmth 🪨 1 material for a mineral, earthy, or structural quality 💨 1 diffusive material to help create the feeling of expanding vapor 🧪 Up to 2 additional materials of your choice And there is one major restriction… 🚫 NO EUCALYPTUS, MINT, OR MENTHOL. We don’t want to make a “spa” accord. Those materials also introduce an immediate cooling sensation, while our goal is to communicate HEAT. WHAT ARE WE LEARNING? This exercise is about olfactory temperature, texture, and atmosphere. Perfumery isn’t always about making something smell literally like an object. Sometimes we use materials to suggest things that don’t actually have a distinct aroma at all. Can something smell wet? Can something smell hot? Can something smell dense? Can something smell like it is floating through the air? These are all perceptions we can manipulate through composition. 🔥 BONUS CHALLENGE Try creating your steam accord without using a traditional aquatic material. Post your formula below and tell us what each material is doing in your composition! There is no single correct interpretation. I want to see how differently everyone translates the sensation of STEAM into scent. ♨️🧪
🔥 HOT IRON ACCORD 🔩
What does hot metal smell like? This week I wanted to experiment with something a little unusual: creating the smell of a piece of iron that has been heated until it’s almost glowing. The interesting part is that we aren’t necessarily smelling the iron itself. What we associate with “hot metal” is a combination of metallic, mineral, dry, earthy, and slightly burnt impressions surrounding it. So instead of trying to find one material that smells like hot iron, I approached it by breaking the idea into pieces. Metal Oxazole provides an obvious metallic character and helps establish the illusion of the metal itself. Habanolide makes up the majority of the accord. Although technically a musk, it has a remarkably clean, metallic quality that gives the accord volume and creates a smooth metallic background. Aldambre brings an extremely dry, powerful amber/woody character. Here, I’m using that dryness to suggest heat rather than simply adding another metallic material. Small amounts of Leather Carbonate add a darker, industrial edge, while traces of 1-Octen-3-one and 1-Octen-3-ol introduce earthy, mushroom-like and mineral nuances that make the effect feel less abstract. Finally, materials like Ambroxan, Dihydro Rose Oxide, and Methyl Trans-3-Nonenoate help shape the surrounding texture and diffusion. The result isn’t simply the smell of metal. It’s the idea of metal being heated. 🔥 Dry

Spiced Rum Accord
I'm in the process of making a spiced rum accord, I have materials like Rum extract on crodamol from robertet, cinnamon Ceylon bark, cinnamil alcohol, methyl cinnamate isoeugenol, and cardamom I want too use in it. How would you attempt to complete a spiced rum accord with just these materials. I have many sweet materials I'll add later in just focusing on the spiced rum right now
