Explaining IBC???
I just loaned (or maybe gave 😂) a copy of Becoming Your Own Banker to one of my coworkers.
He’s a great guy who recently purchased a home on 3.5 acres and is in the process of building his own homestead. I’m actually buying a pig from him this Thanksgiving, which I’m pretty excited about.
I typically don’t discuss IBC with most of my friends and family. As much as I believe in it, I also recognize that it may not be for everyone.
I made an exception with this coworker because he’s extremely disciplined, family/legacy focused, and has an entrepreneurial mindset.
So, what’s the catch? He’s a HUUUUUUGE Dave Ramsey guy.
I told him that I was too, many years ago. I still remember reading "The Total Money Makeover" in the barracks at Ft. Benning in 2004 . However, my financial philosophy has evolved quite a bit since then.
We talked briefly about Dave Ramsey’s strong opposition to whole life insurance, and I shared that my personal experience with IBC has provided significant benefits and flexibility for my family. I also learned that my coworker doesn’t currently have any life insurance at all, which made the discussion even more interesting!!!
The challenge I continue to have is this: How do you explain IBC to someone who has never heard of it without overwhelming them?
It’s difficult enough to summarize the concept in five minutes, let alone come up with a 30-second elevator pitch that doesn’t sound like I'm trying to sell them something.
I gave him the book and shared Dave Belfort’s video with him. Now I’m hoping he digs into the material, asks questions, and ultimately decides for himself whether there’s something there worth pursuing.
Have you found it difficult to explain the concept to someone who has never been exposed to it—especially someone who comes from the Dave Ramsey school of thought?
And if you’ve developed a good 30-second “IBC elevator pitch,” I’d love to hear it.
