engaging passive listeners
here it is—this is february's focus topic. puh, tbh, I've been shying away from this one a bit bc I find it a pretty tough nut to crack. but I'm sure together we can have a solid go at it šŸæļø so let's figure out together how to turn passive listeners into superfans, how to build community, and real connections around your music. any insights, thoughts, experiences are welcome. by the end of the month, I'll collect all our insights and present them to you in our focus topic call. also if you know a guitarist who did engage their audience very well, please suggest them here so I can try to get them on the podcast 🦦

welcome buddy! introduce yourself + share a pic of your guitar šŸŽøšŸ¦¦
let's get to know each other. comment below, sharing a photo of your (current fav) guitar, how you got into making instrumental guitar music, and maybe what you do besides making music. I'm happy to have you here šŸ«¶šŸ¼ PS: oh also please feel free to link your music! PPS: there's also an app of Skool btw. which makes keeping up with what's happening in here a little easier.
Beatles cover and music video
Hey everyone, I'm very excited about this instrumental Beatles cover on my new EP, and it comes with a scenic music video too - filmed in south-east Australia's misty rainforests. If that sounds interesting, please give it a watch and a like (I'm trying to crack YouTube, haha) https://youtu.be/WfkNy9twi54 Cheers, Max
Let's talk about ghost artists šŸ‘»
@Brian Hennessey recently made an interesting discovery when his track Lifted landed on the high-reach Spotify editorial playlist "Deep Focus" (see https://www.instagram.com/p/DZ5ahDUCaiH/). The rumors about so-called "ghost artists" and the term "Perfect Fit Content" (PFC) used internally by Spotify were already uncovered some time ago in Liz Pelly's book Mood Machine. What I've been missing since then is quantifiable evidence about how common these artists actually are in major playlists. To shed some light on this, I've spent the last few days building a tool with Claude Code to identify the "ghosts". I'm currently cross-checking the results with Brian and wanted to share them with you. Full methodology and results are in the HTML file below. šŸ‘‡šŸ¼ If you know of other suspicious playlists you'd like me to run through the tool, or if you have tips and ideas on how to improve the detection methodology, I'd love to hear your feedback. šŸŽø
