Your Ultimate Chord Transcription Playlist ๐Ÿง™
Hey everyone! โœจ One of the most common questions I get is: "๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ด๐˜€ ๐˜€๐—ต๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฑ ๐—œ ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ๐˜€?" So I've put together a resource I wish I'd had when I was starting out: A curated list of 100 perfect songs for chord transcription. This isn't just a random list. Iโ€™ve carefully organized it to help you build your skills progressively: - ๐ŸŸข Beginner: Simple, repetitive progressions (often 2-4 chords) perfect for building confidence. - ๐ŸŸก Intermediate: Introduces common chord extensions (7ths, sus chords) and more movement. - ๐Ÿ”ด Advanced: Complex jazz harmonies, key changes, and richer textures to truly test your ears. Start at your level. Be honest with yourself. It's better to master a "beginner" song than to get frustrated by an "advanced" one. 2. Focus on one song at a time. Don't just listenโ€”truly study it. Play along, sing the bass notes, and map the changes out. 3. Embrace the struggle. Getting stuck is part of the process! If you hit a wall, bring it to the group. That's what we're here for. ๐Ÿ‘‰ Ready to dive in? Here is the link to the Google Sheet: Chord Transcribing Connor โœŒ๏ธ

๐Ÿ”ด Ear Training - Identifying Key Centers
Hey everyone! โœจ Last Friday, August 29th, we checked out 2 songs together to experiment isolating and identifying the key centers to these tracks! New Heart - Crash Adams Leave The Door Open - Bruno Mars ---------------------------- ๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—ฎ ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐˜† ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ? Put simply, there are 2 types of scales that we use to create chords with: major & minor. If I played a progression in the Key of C (C - Dm - Em - F - G - Am - Bdim), the key center would be the C major chord. The tonic chord of the key. The same logic is true in a minor context. Lets use Am as an example. (Am - Bdim - C - Dm - Em - F - G) In this context, Am would be the key center, or the tonic of the key. All of this is explained in detail in my Fundamentals Course which can be found in the Classroom section. If you have any Questions, please let me know here! --------------------------- ๐—ž๐—ฒ๐˜† ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜†๐˜€ - Discussed the importance of recognizing the "home" or tonic chord in a progression - Explored how the feeling of resolution helps identify the key center - Demonstrated how context affects the perception of individual notes within a chord - Identifying key centers and chord qualities through listening is a crucial skill for musicians - Bass notes contain information about chord quality and can help determine major/minor tonality - Understanding the relative nature of chords and their context within a progression enhances musical comprehension ๐—˜๐—ฎ๐—ฟ ๐—ง๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ง๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ป๐—ถ๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐˜€ - Practiced identifying chord progressions in popular songs (e.g., Bruno Mars' "Leave the Door Open") - Demonstrated how to listen for bass movement and chord qualities simultaneously - Discussed the importance of understanding relative chord functions within a key
