๐ด Ear Training - Identifying Key Centers
Hey everyone! โจ Last Friday, August 29th, we checked out 2 songs together to experiment isolating and identifying the key centers to these tracks! New Heart - Crash Adams Leave The Door Open - Bruno Mars ---------------------------- ๐ช๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐ฎ ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ? Put simply, there are 2 types of scales that we use to create chords with: major & minor. If I played a progression in the Key of C (C - Dm - Em - F - G - Am - Bdim), the key center would be the C major chord. The tonic chord of the key. The same logic is true in a minor context. Lets use Am as an example. (Am - Bdim - C - Dm - Em - F - G) In this context, Am would be the key center, or the tonic of the key. All of this is explained in detail in my Fundamentals Course which can be found in the Classroom section. If you have any Questions, please let me know here! --------------------------- ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ง๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐๐ - Discussed the importance of recognizing the "home" or tonic chord in a progression - Explored how the feeling of resolution helps identify the key center - Demonstrated how context affects the perception of individual notes within a chord - Identifying key centers and chord qualities through listening is a crucial skill for musicians - Bass notes contain information about chord quality and can help determine major/minor tonality - Understanding the relative nature of chords and their context within a progression enhances musical comprehension ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ ๐ง๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ง๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ต๐ป๐ถ๐พ๐๐ฒ๐ - Practiced identifying chord progressions in popular songs (e.g., Bruno Mars' "Leave the Door Open") - Demonstrated how to listen for bass movement and chord qualities simultaneously - Discussed the importance of understanding relative chord functions within a key
