Hey everyone! โจ
One of the most common questions I get is: "๐ช๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ด๐ ๐๐ต๐ผ๐๐น๐ฑ ๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ฒ ๐๐ผ ๐ด๐ฒ๐ ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฎ๐ ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฐ๐ต๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฑ๐?" So I've put together a resource I wish I'd had when I was starting out: A curated list of 100 perfect songs for chord transcription.
This isn't just a random list. Iโve carefully organized it to help you build your skills progressively:
- ๐ข Beginner: Simple, repetitive progressions (often 2-4 chords) perfect for building confidence.
- ๐ก Intermediate: Introduces common chord extensions (7ths, sus chords) and more movement.
- ๐ด Advanced: Complex jazz harmonies, key changes, and richer textures to truly test your ears.
- Start at your level. Be honest with yourself. It's better to master a "beginner" song than to get frustrated by an "advanced" one.
- Focus on one song at a time. Don't just listenโtruly study it. Play along, sing the bass notes, and map the changes out.
- Embrace the struggle. Getting stuck is part of the process! If you hit a wall, bring it to the group. That's what we're here for.
