“One Extra Chair at the Table”😍😍😍
I was setting the table for lunch—nothing fancy, just hummus, warm pita, olives, and my famous “I hope this turns out okay” chicken.
Then I paused and said out loud, half joking:“Jesus… if You want, come join me.”
I laughed at myself.“Yeah right… imagine that.”
I turned around—and in my imagination (or maybe something deeper), there He was… sitting calmly like He had always been invited.
I panicked.
“Wait—no! Not today. I didn’t clean properly. Also… this chicken? It’s… experimental.”
He smiled.
I rushed to fix everything:
- I wiped the already clean table again.
- I hid the slightly burnt pita under a napkin.
- I even tried to act like I always cook perfectly.
Then He gently said,“Can we just eat?”
So we sat.
I kept talking nonstop, explaining my food like a cooking show:“This hummus—very authentic, olive oil imported, lemon fresh—”
He took a bite and said,“It tastes like love.”
I stopped.
Then I said,“Okay… but usually when I pray, I ask You for things. Today feels different. I don’t even know what to say.”
He looked at me kindly,“You invited Me. That’s already everything.”
So we ate… in peace.
At one point I said,“Do You ever feel tired? People always asking, needing, wanting…”
He smiled again,“I feel joy when I’m wanted… not just needed.”
Before leaving, I said,“Same time tomorrow?”
And in my heart, I felt the answer:“I was hoping you’d ask.”
Now every day, I set one extra chair.
Not because He needs food…But because I finally understood—He wants presence, not just requests.
Verse:“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with them, and they with Me.”— Revelation 3:20
Prayer:Jesus,I’m used to asking, asking, asking…But today, I just want to sit with You.
Teach me to invite You into my ordinary moments—My meals, my thoughts, my messy kitchen, my real life.
Let my heart be a place where You feel welcome,Not just needed in emergencies.
Stay with me, not because I have everything perfect,But because I finally made space for You.
