Prego?
From Mala d'estórias... (translation from Portuguese)
"Did you know that "prego", or steak on bread, originates in Portugal at Praia das Maçãs?
The real story is related to the name Manuel Dias Prego, one of the first inhabitants of Praia das Maçãs at the end of the 19th century, a place where he owned a tavern. The Tavern of Prego. Now in this tavern Manuel Prego served fried or roasted veal slices in tasty bread and accompanied by local wine.
It is said to have been at this location that José Malhoa painted his famous painting "Praia das Maçãs" (Apples Beach). Who knows if you're enjoying such an 'iguaria' (delicacy) while painting!
Over the years, the name of the sandwich became commonly known as Prego, in honour of its creator, since at the beginning of the 20th century the recipe had already been copied for other places, starting Prego to be part of the taverns around the country and not only from Sintra."
