Olá, bom dia ALEGRIA?!
We’ve all said it: “I’m never drinking again!” In Portuguese, that’s “Nunca mais bebo!”, and it’s about as believable here as anywhere else.
The Portuguese word for hangover, ressaca, first meant the sea’s undertow, the pull back after a wave breaks. Anyone who’s woken up after a long night at a festa knows exactly how that feels.
Today’s sheet, Nº 19: A Ressaca, is in the classroom, with four phrases for the morning after and the classic cures: Água das Pedras, canja, bifana and my own favourite, the crise. That’s scrambled eggs, fiambre and chips, and it never fails. Over to you: what’s your cure? Share your best (or worst!) morning-after remedy below.
Saúde, com moderação! 🍷
