ACT workshop for school social workers
Big win for me! I conducted a 6 hr ACT workshop for social workers (worth 6 CEUs today.) It was in person with 20 very invested people attending. We had great discussions, activities, exercises and even a little dance party (Dancing around the hexaflex.)
I educated on the principles and provided a lot of experiences. I wish I had prepared more about the intersection between ACT and the other EBPs they use, but I shared my humility and learned from them. I loved that some of the exercises led to what I hope will be committed action. One mom talked about how much she dreads making dinner for her family of 6. I used coaching skills to dig a little deeper into the why, and is it a value or is her priority in life right now to spend time and the kids’ many events. By the end of the day she made a SMART goal to work with her family and have them all start planning and prepping meals! One of those goals I never would have suggested, but it seems to fit her values and lifestyle.
We also used the Matrix as a group to talk through a big system issue many of them were complaining about on break. They said they could see the benefit of doing that with their staff!
