If you’re consistently running into issues with renters not paying on time, here’s a policy that can help improve collections.
Before the rental begins, clearly disclose in your contract and pre-rental agreement that if payment is not received within 2–3 days of the due date, the vehicle may be disabled until the balance is resolved (only if your setup and local laws allow this).
If the renter wants to continue the rental after the vehicle has been disabled, require them to pay the outstanding balance plus a $250 reactivation fee before the vehicle is reactivated.
The key is setting this expectation before the rental starts. When renters know the policy in advance, they’re much more likely to pay on time.
Be sure to:
- Include this policy in your rental agreement.
- Review it with the renter before they take possession of the vehicle.
- Follow all applicable laws and your contract terms when enforcing it.
Give this a try and let the community know how it works for you. In many cases, having a clear and consistently enforced policy can reduce late payments and increase on-time payments. 🚘📈
