Puch compression comparrison
I just had my mind blown. I was scrolling through Facebook and this Dj posted a mix he did with Carl Thomas' "I Wish" and some chick doing her vocals to it. But it sounded more like a hip hop song even with the sane Carl Thomas beat. A song I always felt was so sappy, it me maturing to really appreciate it. I'm an amateur engineer, but I recognize punch compression when I hear it (thanks Dylan). I went and listened to Carl's version on Amazon music and sure enough the biggest difference was in the drums. Now that I think about it, I think I heard some groove in there, too. Like a lot of it. When I compress my mix, it's easy to audibly hear the difference, but hearing it done on someone else's mix who has more experience and can do it better on a sound you're already familiar with made it crystal clear. I posted the Dj's video so you guys can do a comparison, too. I listened to both of them on my phone and it was still crystal clear.
