Drum Tuning
Have you ever tried to tune the heads on live drums?
I happen to have a drum tuner. It's called a drum Dial made by Tama. It's a precision caliper of sorts to measure tympanic pressure. It's actually very easy to use and gets your drums "dialed in" very quickly and gives extremely consistent results. I set the all the lugs at 95 TPUs (Tympanic Pressure Units) on the batter head and the resonant head 10 TPU (85) lower and it made all the difference in the world to the overall tone of the drum itself. It went from hugs to HUGE in a hurry. As long as you write down the TPU settings and keep them handy, the results are repeatable and consistent. I just love this little thingy. Really worth the $80 I spent on it back in 2010. Makes a huge difference in the sound of the drums in general. Great tool to have in the studio if you're working with live drums. Real time saver. Hope this helps.🤠
