What do you do when someone views your profile on LinkedIn?
One of the things I love about LinkedIn, is that they tell you when someone views your profile.
One of the most common questions I get is.
What do you do when someone looks at your profile?
Well, if you're not connected to the person, then you might want to connect with them. Especially if you know who they are, or they're a potential client.
However, direct messaging that can never hurt
Here are 5 templates you can use
Keep in mind that in our training program, we have hundreds of these types of templates and scenarios to be able to direct message people link up conversations from LinkedIn.
In the comments, tell me which one of these 5 you like the most.
Here are five variations of a direct message you can send to someone who views your LinkedIn profile, ranging from very general to highly specific.
Each message has a different level of personalization and engagement.
---
1. Very General (Casual and Open-Ended)
Message:"Hey [First Name], thanks for checking out my profile! Hope you found what you were looking for. Let me know if I can be of any help. Appreciate you stopping by! 😊"
Why it works:
It’s light, friendly, and low-pressure.
It leaves the door open for any type of response.
Works well if you don’t know the person or their intent.
---
2. Slightly More Engaging (Prompting a Response)
Message:"Hey [First Name], I noticed you viewed my profile—thanks for stopping by! Are you looking for something specific, or just exploring? Happy to help if you need any insights or support."
Why it works:
It gently asks if they had a reason for visiting.
Gives them an easy way to engage without being pushy.
Ideal for starting a conversation with a warm lead.
---
3. Personalized (Based on Their Profile)
Message:"Hey [First Name], I saw that you checked out my profile. I took a quick look at yours too—really impressed by your work in [industry or role]. If you were looking for something specific, happy to connect and chat!"
Why it works:
It shows that you took the time to look at their profile.
Personalizes the message to their industry or expertise.
Encourages engagement without assuming their intent.
---
4. Lead-Driven (For Business Prospects)
Message:"Hey [First Name], noticed you viewed my profile. I often work with [their role or industry] on [your expertise or solution]. If you're exploring ways to [solve a common pain point], I’d love to share some quick insights. Let me know if that’s of interest!"
Why it works:
Positions you as a helpful resource.
Highlights a potential problem they might be facing.
Soft call to action without sounding like a sales pitch.
---
5. Highly Specific (Direct Offer or Next Step)
Message:"Hey [First Name], I noticed you viewed my profile and I specialize in helping [target audience] with [specific service]. If you were looking for insights on [pain point], I’d be happy to share a quick strategy or even jump on a quick call. Let me know what works for you!"
Why it works:
It’s highly targeted for someone actively looking for a solution.
Calls out a specific challenge they might be facing.
Offers immediate value and a next step.
---
Which One to Use?
If you’re unsure of their intent: Use Message 1 or 2 (casual and inviting).
If they seem relevant to your work: Use Message 3 (personalized).
If they are a business prospect: Use Message 4 (lead-driven).
If they likely need your service: Use Message 5 (direct offer).
