Can you edit connection requests on LinkedIn?
Question from Client: I recently posted a job advertisement for a Virtual Assistant (VA) position and received several responses.
I intended to send personalized LinkedIn connection requests to each respondent.
However, due to my Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), I accidentally sent some requests with incorrect names in the custom messages.
Is there a way to rectify these errors before the recipients read the connection requests?
Answer from Joe:
Thank you for reaching out about this issue. Here's what you need to know:
  1. Withdrawing connection requests: You can withdraw the connection requests that contain errors. However, please note that after withdrawing a request, LinkedIn's policy prevents you from sending another connection request to the same person for three weeks.
  2. Editing connection request notes: Unfortunately, LinkedIn does not provide an option to edit the notes attached to connection requests once they've been sent.
  3. Editing direct messages (DMs): If you sent direct messages instead of connection requests, you have a 5-minute window after sending to edit the content. This feature is not applicable to connection request notes.
Recommendations:
  1. If the errors are significant, consider withdrawing the requests and waiting the required three weeks before resending with correct information.
  2. For future reference, you might want to use a checklist or template system to help manage your connection request process, which can be helpful in managing ADD-related challenges.
  3. If you decide to leave the requests as is, you could follow up with a direct message explaining the error once the connection is accepted.
Remember, everyone makes mistakes, and most people are understanding when it comes to such errors. The key is to handle the situation professionally moving forward.
