After reviewing hundreds of Etsy shops over the past several years, one of the biggest mistakes new sellers make is to jump on every trend and fill their shops with trending and holiday items. The problem with this is that trends end a lot sooner than you think, in fact by the time you identify the trend, it's usually saturated, and a race to the bottom. Holidays although cyclical, tend to stop selling after the holiday is over and you are left starting from scratch over and over again. Instead, follow the 80/20 rule. 80% of your shop should be evergreen items that sell all year long and only 20% of your shop should be trending and holiday based items.
