šŸŽ Rider Lab – New Hours
If you're enrolled in Reconnect, Rebuild, and Ride with Heart these are your "office hours". I'm switching to Wednesday evenings. Fridays are staying the same for now, but they will probably change when the weather warms up. Going forward Wednesdays — 7:00 PM EST Fridays — 10:00 AM EST These are relaxed coaching sessions where we can talk through anything that’s coming up with your horse or you. You can bring: • a question • a short video clip • a situation you’re trying to understand • or a small win from the week Sometimes the smallest moments with our horses turn out to be the most interesting to unpack. Come to whichever session fits your schedule — you don’t need to attend both. šŸ‘‡ Drop your question or win below if you’d like me to cover it during Rider Lab. Looking forward to hearing what everyone is noticing this week.

šŸ“œ Community Rules — The Happy Horse and Rider Lab
These rules exist to protect the learning space, not to police people. 1ļøāƒ£ Lead with Curiosity Share experiences, observations, and questions—not ultimatums. Instead of: ā€œYou should justā€¦ā€ Try: ā€œWhat’s worked for meā€¦ā€ ā€œHave you consideredā€¦ā€ ā€œI’m curious what happens ifā€¦ā€ 2ļøāƒ£ Horse-First, Always Advice should consider: - The horse’s physical comfort - Emotional state - Learning history If a suggestion prioritizes control over understanding, it doesn’t belong here. 3ļøāƒ£ No Discipline or Method Shaming All disciplines and backgrounds are welcome. This is not a place to: - Dismiss others based on discipline - Promote superiority of one system - Mock ā€œless advancedā€ questions We learn across disciplines here. 4ļøāƒ£ Behavior Is Information We don’t label horses as: - Stubborn - Lazy - Dominant - Bad Describe what you see and what’s happening, not what you assume. 5ļøāƒ£ Debate Ideas, Not People Disagreement is okay. Disrespect is not. - No personal attacks - No sarcasm aimed at individuals - No ā€œgotchaā€ replies If a conversation stops being productive, moderators may step in. 6ļøāƒ£ No Fear-Based or Punitive Advice Advice rooted in: - Intimidation - Flooding - Escalation for compliance - ā€œMake them learnā€ thinking …will be removed. Discussion about these approaches is welcome. Promotion of them is not. 7ļøāƒ£ This Is Not a Marketplace - No unsolicited promotions - No DMing members to sell services - No affiliate links without permission If you have something valuable to share, ask first. 8ļøāƒ£ Protect Psychological Safety - No diagnosing horses or humans - No shaming emotional responses - No minimizing someone’s experience Growth happens best in safety. 9ļøāƒ£ Stay Engaged, Stay Kind If you post a question: - Be open to feedback - Stay involved in the discussion - Remember: learning is collaborative šŸ”Ÿ Moderator Discretion To maintain the integrity of this space: - Posts may be edited or removed - Repeat violations may result in removal

šŸ“Œ Welcome to The Happy Horse and Rider Lab
Before you dive in, take a minute to read this. This post sets the tone for how we learn, share, and show up here. āœ… This IS a place for: - People who care deeply about their horses’ physical and emotional well-being - Riders of any discipline, level, age, or background - Curiosity, reflection, and thoughtful conversation - Asking why, not just how - Learning skills and mindset together - Seeing behavior as information, not defiance - Open-minded discussion, experimentation, and shared learning - Riders who are willing to keep evolving—even when it’s uncomfortable You don’t need to have all the answers here. You just need to be willing to ask better questions. 🚫 This is NOT a place for: - Discipline shaming or ā€œmy way is the only wayā€ thinking - Dominance, intimidation, or fear-based training advice - Quick fixes that ignore the horse’s experience - Ego-driven hierarchy (titles matter less than curiosity here) - Arguments meant to win instead of understand - Rigid tradition for tradition’s sake We can talk about any approach— but we do it through inquiry, respect, and the lens of the horse. 🧠 How to Get the Most Out of This Lab - Read posts with curiosity before reacting - Share experiences, not ultimatums - Ask questions that open dialogue - Assume good intent—from humans and horses alike - Remember: learning is a process, not a performance This is a lab, not a courtroom. We’re here to explore, test, and learn—together. If this resonates, you’re in the right place. If it challenges you a little… you’re still in the right place. Welcome šŸ’™

Welcome New Members!
I'm so excited to see more people joining us 😊 Let us know a little more about you @Karen Launis and @Robin Kockler. Remember, there are office hours tonight from 7-8pm EDT. If you came into Reconnect, Rebuild, and Ride with Heart because you signed up for a clinic; jump in and ask a question, even if it's not about the course! We've got a live coaching call coming up in the beginning of May, so keep following for that (you'll get an email too). Have you tried the experiment this week yet? I'd love to hear how those go in the call too šŸ¤—

Happy Tuesday!
This week’s 10-minute experiment I call The Energy Ladder. Master the rungs and then climb the ladder faster to refine your horse's response. Start on the ground. Ask your horse to walk off. Either straight ahead with your or out on a circle, doesn't matter, whatever is easy for you. How did it feel? Do they walk on promptly with purpose at the lightest touch or maybe just your intention? No? Good. Now you can play with The Energy Ladder. What is the least amount of pressure or ask you'd like to use to get your horse moving? Save that as your first rung. What are you ACTUALLY having to do to get your horse moving? Save that as your third rung. Your second rung will be an action in between the first and third-pick whatever aid or combo of aids that works for you. The fourth rung is an action bigger or more enticing than the third rung. This could be using a tool - like a stick - or using something like food. What is going to really motivate your horse, KINDLY? Start asking for each rung of the ladder VERY CLEARLY and SLOWLY. Whenever your horse moves off, give a big HAPPY release! Simply notice when your horse goes. Is it always rung 3 or do they start moving off sooner? This week is about gathering data and noticing. Next week, we'll work on refining the ladder! If you want to hear more talk about, listen or watch this week's podcast episode. Here is a video of me doing this in the backup šŸ‘‡
