👇🏻How’s your about page working for you?
Buckle up Buttercup, this one’s not for the faint of heart 😜 Don’t wanna read? Watch the vid 🙃
These are the things I learned going through the messy process myself over the last almost 2 years and then working with hundreds of other folks to clean up their about pages so they actually land with their peeps.
These are the core things I have found most (including myself as a newbie when I started) struggle with 😉
📱 First things first, always check your text copy and images on mobile…
especially if you are bringing folks from off platform, if your text copy is overly blocky they will skim rather than read…
and those images with small text or full of reviews won’t be able to be read which makes them moot.
The frame work for the vsl and text copy mirrors what Hormozi talks about
🪝 Hook
🤕 Pain points
🤷🏻♀️ Who the hell you are
🦄 Dream outcome
You basically want them going damn, how are they in my head, they know what I’m struggling with going at this alone, they know where I want to be, I’m in.
🤦🏻♀️ For the love of Pete, in your vsl do not do a loom, head and upper body, good lighting and clean background, folks want to see your facial expressions and body language, it helps convey the message you are trying to get across.
If you sound flat or monotone, practice until you don’t, because if you aren’t passionate about what you are doing why should anyone else be excited about working with you?
Do a thumbnail, make sure the play button isn’t covering anything.
😊 Try adding your face to said thumbnail, and also your discovery banner, when I did that my discovery ranking jumped 100 points in the right direction with no other changes.
Is a vsl neccessary? Not always, but it’s worth testing to see.
🦄 If you have reviews, make sure those are in your creative slots, just make sure they are readable via mobile, and if they are longer, underline the key points you want someone to take away!
🤔 Instead of focusing on tools and methods (cough cough classroom etc cough) focus on the outcome the tools and methods give.
People buy/join from emotion/sub-conscience not conscience logic a lot of the time… or like my skool friend Goose says often, they buy the bacon, not the broccoli.
🥦 Yes they need the broccoli, but that goes inside the group, the bacon (dream outcomes) are what goes on the about page.
One way I have found helpful is to add so that to the end of the tool/method
🧠 We fix your mindset SO THAT you make more money
⚽️ We help you get fit so that you can get on the floor to play with your grandkids
🍱 We help you eat healthier so that you can fit into that dress you bought and loved that’s not quite fitting yet
❤️ We help you do the inner work so that you stop attracting the wrong guys that don’t treat you right.
💻 We have this certified tool you need so that you can make more money
Then, you drop the tool/method and so that and just put what comes after on the about page…
💭 this helps them envision, feel and see you understand what they want…
the way they get there isn’t important and may turn them away if you start talking about it much…
❌ cause it’s easy to introduce overwhelm or the objection of I don’t have time/energy when they see a list of tools/methods.
If you don’t have a bit about you, it needs to be there…
🌎 especially with a million new users coming to the platform every week and a half or so, if you are getting folks finding you from discovery they need to know why they should trust you 😉
Not a laundry list of certifications and diplomas… they want to know you either have been there done that or have some context in a human sense.
Many folks have been burned by trusting folks with certifications, value stacks, and also if everyone else and their mom has those same certifications etc does it really help you stand out amongst the rest?
Am I saying if your folks need and desire to see them don’t put them, nope, but oftentimes our ego tries to get in the way and clusterfucks things if we aren’t careful 🤦🏻♀️
The other thing to watch for is a laundry list of bullets… Harvard did a study that showed peeps brains sorta turn to mush after three bullet points… at best they skim, worst they just don’t bother 😳it’s another case where more isn’t always better.
Also a sorta nit picky point, check bullets on mobile, cause if they are bleeding all over the place maybe just turn it into a sentence instead so it doesn’t look sloppy.
☁️ Watch the fluff and jargon… oftentimes we try to make our offer sound prettier or different and end up watering down the message and it doesn’t land with the fluff and jargon.
🚨The most important part is to use your clients words 💥
…the ones they think and speak after having a few too many beers at the pub or when they are up and spiraling at 2am at night…
I promise they aren’t saying they just want a frame work to help their mindset and heal their nervous system 😉
Then, infuse your flavor… because you are what makes your space stand out from all the rest. It doesn’t need to be polished and ai written and perfect…
you might just find the more you that you infuse into it the more it actually sets you apart compared to the fluff and fancy words.
🤔 The last thing I will leave you with, is can you read your offer objectively, like pretend it’s someone else’s offer you are coming accross… would you actually opt in?
No one’s believing you are giving away $5000 worth of progress for $9 a month.
They prolly aren’t going to believe you can help them reach 10k months if they are brand new… for newbies,
☎️ Hormozi went over how he changed his ads last year on a skool games call, they started focusing more on the average a paid skool makes instead of the winners cause it was more relatable to the folks they wanted to join…
Gotta get the ego outta the way and speak human to human, and you might just be surprised what happens 😝
👇🏻 Thoughts? or, what did I miss that you think is key for an about page??
PS it’s completely normal to do revisions and tweaks on your about page as you learn, I have lost count of how many times I have done mine.. don’t let it become the main focus or a shiny object tho 🤪
AND test, and test again, messy action trumps perfect action, and testing to see what’s best for you and your peeps is better than just blindly following anyone’s reccs, cause they aren’t you nor your future members.
