SIGNS OF LIFE CHALLENGE✨🌱
Think winter is dead and lifeless? ❄️🪦
Look closer! 👀🌲
Foraging doesn’t start in spring - it starts with observation🔍🍂
Learning to recognize plants in their dormant state 🌿😴 and noticing how animals use them for food and shelter gives you a huge advantage when the growing season arrives 🌱☀️
On January 1st, we’re launching the “Signs of Life Challenge” - a daily (or as-often-as-you-can*) 📸 photo challenge designed to sharpen your foraging eye 👁️✨ and wake up your curiosity 🧠⚡, even in the cold, dark days of winter! 🌑❄️
📸 The Challenge:
Throughout January, share photos of the “signs of life” you notice around you 🌲🐾
Winter may look quiet 🤫, but it’s full of clues when you slow down 🚶♀️🍃 and look 👀
🌿 So, what counts? - Almost everything!
• Wildlife tracks in snow or mud 🐾❄️
• Weedy seed heads and dried stalks 🌾🍂
• Leaf and flower buds 🌱🌸
• Lichens, mosses, and fungi 🍄💚
• Evergreens and dead leaves 🌲🍁
• Old nests and animal holes 🪹🕳
• Bark texture and stem shapes 🌳
• Blurry wildlife sightings 🦌💨
• Unknown mystery plants ❓🌿
✨ If it made you stop and look - it counts.✨
These winter observations become mental maps 🧭🧠 you’ll use all year long 🌼🌞
🗓 How to participate:
Post a photo each day (or whenever you can) 📷💚 and tell us what caught your eye 👀
No pressure 🙅♀️
No perfection 🚫✨
Just curiosity 🐌🌱
This isn’t about expert IDs or perfect photos 📚❌📸
It’s about training your eyes 👁️, building awareness 🌎, and reminding ourselves that life never truly disappears - it just waits ⏳🌿
So bundle up 🧣🧤, step outside 🚪👣, and start looking closer 🔍
Winter has secrets to share. 👀🌲✨
