In business, some things cannot be delegated - 2 Kings 4:31
It is commonly understood, in business, that delegation is necessary. However, we must carefully discern when delegation is not appropriate. I have a brother in Christ, who founded a very successful and profitable business. He sent a staff member to a meeting with a vendor, in his stead, on a day when he was not feeling well. A contract was signed at the meeting and there were predatory provisions in the contract. What followed was the active, and unscrupulous, implementation of the predatory provisions. It is an understatement to say that this resulted in great disadvantage not only to my brother in Christ, but also to his subcontractors. The blessing was that the true nature of the vendor was revealed so that plans could be made to terminate the professional relationship in the foreseeable future. The process of paying off the contract was very expensive but eliminating this vendor from future business opportunities resulted in great peace. The lesson, in this case, of when and when not to delegate, was very valuable and also very expensive. In my personal bible reading plan this morning, I saw an instance when Elisha attempted to delegate a task to his servant Gehazi - The scriptures tell us the task was not appropriate for delegation to his servant Gehazi. Fortunately, Elisha heeded the client's desire for his presence and personal attention to the situation (your unique God-given value quotient). Accordingly, Elisha accompanied the client even though he also dispatched his servant ahead to try and handle the situation. In the scriptural example, there was no harm, and no foul, in dispatching his servant Gehazi to handle the task, since Elisha was on the heels of his servant to address the need when his servant was unsuccessful. 2 Kings 4:31 From a practical perspective, what could my brother-in-Christ have done differently? He could have rescheduled the meeting to a time when he was available. He could have taken the posture that all contracts are to be reviewed by legal counsel, etc....
