Zoom phone or SIP - IVR, Cloud PBX functionality
Dorn, this is way better than I realized using Zoom SIP to my VOIP SIP desktop phone. Turns out one needs a Zoom certified phone to get full Zoom PBX functionality like the Yealink MP58 E2 Zoom, or Yealink MP54-ZOOM. Later in this video it shows the zoom meeting happening directly on the zoom phone screen. https://youtu.be/JuCemsAC0cs?si=FSIaZiqvoM8x-ocv ChatGPT: Yes — Zoom SIP (via Zoom Phone) provides full application-layer call control, not just basic SIP trunk pass-through. What matters is this: If you're using Zoom Phone (native) → you get full PBX-level features. If you're using Zoom BYOC SIP trunking → Zoom still handles the call control logic; your carrier just provides PSTN connectivity. Below is what Zoom provides at the application layer. 📞 Core Call Control (PBX-Level Features) Zoom Phone functions like a modern cloud PBX. ✔ Call Routing Auto Receptionist (multi-level menus) Time-based routing (business hours / after-hours) Call queues Ring groups Forwarding rules (user, queue, external number) Shared line groups Yes — it can absolutely route calls based on rules. 📋 IVR (Auto Receptionist) Zoom includes IVR functionality. You can: Create multi-level menu trees Press 1 for Sales, 2 for Support Route to user, queue, voicemail, or external number Set different menus by time of day Add custom greetings It’s not as programmable as Twilio Studio, but it’s fully capable for business IVR. 🎧 ACD (Call Queue / Distribution) Zoom Phone includes queue-based distribution (basic ACD functionality). Features: Round robin distribution Longest idle Sequential routing Simultaneous ringing Overflow routing Max wait time routing Queue voicemail Real-time queue monitoring It does not provide enterprise-grade skill-based routing like Cisco or Five9 — but for SMB use, it’s strong. 🎶 Call Handling Features ✔ Hold Music on hold Custom hold music upload ✔ Transfer Warm transfer
Hello Digital Edge group.
I’m looking forward to the DE experience. Maybe I’ll learn what an API really does? Don
