Time to Plant Garlic
OH, boy. It has been a year. The raised bed garden in the back has been challenged by the weather. About a month ago, I harvested potatoes and dumped the crates of soil into the raised bed.
Today, we planted the garlic.
The garlic is usually harvested here in July, then I sort it and save back a few of the best to replant for seed. This year I saved 5 bulbs. We replanted 3. (about 18 to 20 cloves)
It is a bit difficult to gauge when to plant the garlic here near Lake Erie, and this fall has been unusually warm. So I waited. I like to plant the garlic about 6 weeks before the ground freezes, but that date is unreliable here.
When do you plant your garlic? What challenges does it present?
