Children are not "fast"
TW: This should not be difficult to understand. Adultification bias strips Black girls of their innocence and weaponizes harmful stereotypes—such as the Jezebel and Pickaninny caricatures—to justify their abuse and hypersexualization. Labeling young Black victims as "fast" or promiscuous is a dangerous twisting of logic used by predators to blame children for grooming and violence.
Research documents how deeply ingrained this bias is in society:
Early onset: Studies indicate that adults view Black girls as less innocent than their white peers beginning at age 5.
Institutional impact: This adultification leads to harsher school discipline and unequal juvenile justice treatment, as adults demand maturity instead of offering protection.
Perpetuating trauma: Characterizing Black children's experiences through an adult lens denies them the developmental leeway White children receive, directly threatening their safety and emotional well-being.
