I’ve just completed Cum Sancto Spiritu, the concluding movement of the Gloria from my Mass No. 2.
The piece opens with a rapid descending figure in the instruments, inspired by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2. From there, the music flows into a gentle, river-like lilt, with harp textures supporting the choir, before gradually building in counterpoint and richness of texture.
This movement brings the Gloria to its joyful close:Cum Sancto Spiritu, in gloria Dei Patris. Amen.
