This weekend small but surfable pulses are rolling through Costa Rica, with leftover SSW energy offering waist-to-chest-high surf and a few playful peaks pushing near head high. Sunday is shaping up as the standout. Nothing major — just clean, fun walls. Looking ahead, eyes turn toward a brewing run of storms off New Zealand. The first system should push surf into the chest-to-overhead zone by early in the week of the 27th as the pulse peaks Tuesday the 28th. It’s a solid start to a promising late-season run. Then comes the real story: a massive low-pressure system projected to spin up near 50-foot seas by Friday the 24th. Most of its energy will aim toward South America, but enough swell should angle north to light up Costa Rica and especially Guanacaste around October 31st into November 1st. September’s Surge Continues to Fade, But A Bump Later this Week is Likely… The end of September packed a bite across Central America but that swell is fading now. The leftovers from that pulse will keep average breaks waist-chest high through the end of the week. However, two storms merged in the eastern half of the Southern Pacific at the end of last week and this should deliver another respectable pop of SSW swell to Mexico and Central America the week of the 6th. …and More Size Should Arrive by Mid Month Storm activity returned near New Zealand in recent days. This should deliver low pressure dynamics to the SE Pacific in about a week. Forecast models suggest a rise in SSW swell around the 11th-12th of October. Crowds will be limited so enjoy the empty waves!
