Crazy Property Management Stories
Anybody have some wild, funny or insane property management stories they can share? If you’ve spent any time operating real estate (commercial or residential) I’m sure you have your share of crazy situations you’ve dealt with. One that I had that comes to mind was the time I was walking our main equity partners through the building, showing off vacant spaces and new suites, when the elevator doors opened. Out stepped two tenants ready to fight. One was the short, stocky CEO of our biggest tenant—a guy who basically paid half the building’s rent. The other was a 23-year-old law-firm clerk who had parked in the CEO’s “usual” (unreserved) spot. The CEO started yelling. The kid responded by flipping him off. I glanced at my partners. They gave me the universal “you got this” raised eyebrows and promptly ducked into the nearest suite, leaving me standing there as the only thing between a multimillion-dollar tenant and a middle finger. Good times. I’ve dealt with snakes inside suites, guns being left in bathrooms, robberies, medical emergencies, flash mobs, fire sprinklers going off and alligators. Even with the chaos, I couldn’t imagine doing anything but real estate.
