Cellar, basement, root cellar, cave!
A very common term for longer term storage of root vegetables from the garden, jarred preserves, oils, wine, beer!
What would you put in your cave?
A typical refrigerator is much smaller (and less expensive) than in most western countries. Many items are made or assembled in France or neighboring countries. As a result, people preserve many foods, from garden vegetables to leftover soup and Boeuf Bourgignon!
