@Solly Currahee I love the french butter, so much taste and so many types. I remember the butter dish too! Here I have not seen it in (sticks), but in 250 and 500g blocks and soft in plastic tubs. I dont use enough to keep it at room temp, the last on began to smell (interesting) after a month, haha

So, you have heard of Cider? cidre? Sweet from the grocer, or with bubbles, with or without alcohol. Cider is produced throughout France, but was made famous in the Normandy (and Brittany) region. Hard cider is normally sold two ways: Brut, dry and crisp. Refreshing by itself, but amazing with mussels and fries moule fritte Doux, sweeter and lower in alcohol, is sometime mixed with POMMEAU (see below) Pommeau: Not well known, is normally a mix of apple juice and apple brandy. Sometimes un carbonated cider is used. It is on the sweeter side, between 16-20% alcohol. Sometimes served in sparkling water. Calvados: The Famous apple brandy. Wether made in the Calvados region, or somewhere else the below ratings always rule VS-2 year barrel age minimum (Very Special), VSOP-4 (very special old process), 4 years, XO-(extra old) 6 years These are the same rules as french brandy and Cognac, (which is also a brandy, but more later) Spirits do not age or, get smoother after they are in the bottle… promise! SALUT!

Spring arrives
Spring arrives…. People airing out the homes after the winter cold. Time to wash those blankets and comforters, hang them in the breeze to dry. Everyone is cleaning windows, washing their car It’s almost like a ritual, cleaning winter away Farmers going to their plots, perhaps pulling out the last of the Leeks, Brussels, Shallots, Garlic The Mirabelle trees (a tiny plum, extinct in America) are in full bloom, with their orange like scent So many people garden. Even in the city it is common to have at least a herb garden The “Bricco marts”, and Gamme vert are well stocked with pallets of earth And the beginnings of the flowers and early vegetables One thing I noticed is many cold weather crops are planted It’s Easter season, like many countries and the stores are stocked with Belgian, Italian and French chocolate. The main town here is Bourbonne le Bains, it is built on an inactive volcano, and there are natural hot springs and a large facility open mid March until November. The population swells from 1500 to approx 2500. The government health system pays 2/3 for two weeks of “treatments” including massage, hot mud, hydro therapy, acupuncture, etc. The BnB, studio residences, hotels are beginning to open. Soon the amount of open stores on Grand Rue will spike. There are quite a few “Thermal towns” in this area, and each has a casino…. https://www.natureetsourcechaude.com/carte-sources-eau-chaude-naturelles-france/

Quebec folklore song translated
“Quebecois” french is not considered formal Just as the English consider American english sloppy Quebecois was considered “Farmer’s french” But the vibes of this song are the same in the 1050-60s Accordions are common in my region still! https://youtu.be/lO3u0HFDVoM?si=FiYwxYn2OmCDURyQ

@Jérôme Quintana Cervoni thank you for your view! The English language is altered by many nationalities, and even between states. Examples, Most Americans would say “it is there, or there it is”. In some southern states you may hear “over yonder a bit” UK english is considered the “Queen’s” english, and US version is sloppy. In UK a “fag” could be a name for a cigarette. In US, this word can get you banned from a group, or arrested! In Australia, some words are even more faux pas in US In the US, someone using exclusively “the Queen’s english”, may seem “hoity toity” …which can mean “acts or thinks they are better than everyone” “Ma tante” (my aunt)… her last name was French! Used to call me “tete de poiche” 60 years later I still can picture her in the kitchen calling me that (shovel head) Now I use a spade to prepare my garden Maintenant, j'utilise une pioche pour préparer mon jardin. SMALL BITE french lesson alert!
