As a homeschool mom, there’s a lot to do. As a mom with ADHD, it’s almost 3x more. My niece is a senior with me and it’s been the biggest challenge to get her here. Well I was planning to allow her to graduate this month as long as her grades passed. I started grading….Yes I’m that mom that grade. It’s dopamine fix for me. Why? I have no idea.🤷🏾‍♀️ Anyhooo. As I was grading, I saw that she plagiarized and used Chat GPT. I was livid. Then there were so many missing assignments. She didn’t never asks questions about work and when I ask if she needs help, she always has it. She doesn’t follow directions on the assignments just because she truly doesn’t want to do the work. So I grade accordingly. Needless to say that she will not be graduating this year. She was behind a full year and I got her to one semester. Here’s my dilemma, I made up my mind and told her over and over that I’m no longer teaching or redoing classes for her to take. I’m standing my ground and putting up a barrier. I’m tired of being walked on. However, I feel a self doubt set in because she is failing English 12 and Life Skills because of neglect to do work. I prayed and prayed about it. I’m on a spiritual healing journey and I am protecting my peace. I cannot move forward when there’s something that keeps trying to hold me down. I still have my 6 year old 2nd grader to work with. My niece truly drains my energy and mentally frustrates and exhausts me. I feel that she has to learn and if she wants to get a GED or Adult High School Diploma then she can. As of 2025, I release things and people that no longer serve me or work for me 🙏🏾 What would you all do in this situation?
