🌾 Why Bond Hill Farms Exists
Bond Hill Farms exists because real life doesn’t fit into neat boxes. Learning, work, family, creativity, and rest all happen at the same time—and most spaces ask us to separate them. This one doesn’t. Bond Hill Farms was created for families who want to grow skills and income in ways that feel steady, grounded, and realistic. Not perfect. Not rushed. Just rooted in everyday life. I grew up in a suburb of Kansas City, and currently live in rural northwest Missouri, on 25 acres, with my growing family. Moving here was almost a culture shock, with a big learning curve. What I used to do on a daily basis in "the city" is now an all day adventure to the closest town and beyond. Finding hobbies, ways to be social, starting pre-k homeschool, and keeping up with all of it was an immediate struggle for me, until I realized I didn't have anyone to keep up with other than myself. I wanted to create a space for myself and others to slow down, enjoy this phase of life for all of chaotic and amazing moments, and to grow. A lot of what we share here comes from doing things the slow way: learning by trying, adjusting with the seasons, and letting small efforts add up over time. There’s value in: - Growing something small before growing something bigger - Making things with your hands - Letting kids be part of the process - Choosing sustainability over speed Everything we do on Bond Hill is done as a team, including little hands. The Mom side of me wants to hurry and check things off my list so that I can feel productive, but when littles want to help, the process slows way down. The biggest lesson I have learned so far is that the list never ends, so there is no point in rushing, and that taking my time to involve others, teaches us all something new. Slowing down to absorb the little things and involve others, creates the moments we, as parents or elders, will look back on. Allowing others to learn from us, and learning with them, creates the generational link of skills that are being lost.
