WARNING: BEWARE OF “MOVING THE STAKE”
Sometimes people believe they did nothing wrong, without realizing that one small, careless word or action can cause serious and far-reaching consequences.
In a well-known cautionary story circulating on social media, Iblis should not be understood literally, but rather as a symbol of negative thoughts, temptations, harmful ideas, malicious intentions, and careless actions that quietly slip in without being noticed.
The story goes like this:
It is said that Iblis wanted to leave the place where he lived with his sons. When he noticed a tent, he said:
“I will not leave until I cause them trouble.”
He approached the tent and saw a cow tied to a stake, with a woman milking it.
Next to the mother sat a small child.
Iblis did just one thing — he moved the stake.
The cow became frightened and panicked, the milk spilled, and in the chaos the cow trampled the child — and the child died.
The woman, blinded by pain and anger, attacked the cow and fatally wounded it.
The cow collapsed and died.
When the husband arrived and saw his dead child and the cow, he beat the woman and abandoned her.
Later, her relatives came and attacked him.
Then his relatives arrived.
Fights, clashes, and bloodshed followed.
Horrified by everything that had happened, Iblis’ sons asked him:
“Father, what did you do?”
He replied:
“Nothing. I only moved the stake.”
🧠 EXPLANATION AND LESSON
This story shows us that:
harmful thoughts often begin with something “small”
a careless word, gossip, rumor, or provocation can start an avalanche
a single spark can ignite a great fire
Many people unconsciously:
-create division
-spread negativity
-provoke conflict
-poison the atmosphere
and in the end they say:
“I didn’t do anything.”
They only “moved the stake.”
🛑 MESSAGE
🛑 Watch what you think.
🛑 Watch what you say.
🛑 Watch what you pass on.
Words have power.
Thoughts have direction.
A small action can change everything — for better or for worse.
