I'm going to do 100 hrs of Meditation in 10 Days
Months ago, one of the Advisory members made this post (attached below). When I read it, I thought "that's something I want to do someday". But instead of putting it off for "someday", I decided to exercise my agency. I will be going on Monday. === ORIGINAL POST === Credits: Ari N. Yes, itโ€™s true. I meditated for 10 days straight. In this post, I recap my lifechanging experience with a 10-day silent Vipassana meditation course. TLDR: I completed a 10-day silent Vipassana meditation retreat (completely free, no phones/talking, 10+ hours of daily meditation). It taught me that my reactions to life cause my suffering, not life itself, and Iโ€™m noticeably less miserable and reactive now. Itโ€™s the practical application of Stoicism we all talk about but rarely practice. ๐Ÿง˜ CONTEXT Have you ever fantasized about just dropping everything and becoming a mindful monk? A 10-day Vipassana meditation course (which actually spans 12 calendar days) gives you a true taste of that life. These courses are COMPLETELY FREE to anyone. You are provided with delicious food and comfortable accommodations so that you can dedicate 100% of your energy toward the practice. Vipassana is: A technique to help eradicate the suffering you face on a daily basis (even the suffering you aren't yet conscious of). A method of mental purification that allows you to face lifeโ€™s tensions and problems in a calm, balanced way. An "art of living" that you can use to make positive contributions to society. To keep the environment pure, no reading or writing materials, phones, verbal or non-verbal communication with other students, outside food, intoxicants, or nicotine are allowed during the course. ๐Ÿง˜ THE EXPERIENCE On the first day, you arrive in the late afternoon, share a light meal, gather for a teaching session, and end the evening with your first group meditation. (The first image below is of the meditation hall, and the second is of the Pagoda at the center). Bedtime is between 9:00 and 9:30 pm, and you are awoken by a bell at 4:00 am sharp. The first meditation of the day begins at 4:30 am. (See the third image for the full course timetable).
