Hi All,
Last week, I had the opportunity to speak with a software developer who has 22 years of experience, including 18 years working in Germany. He shared some valuable job-searching advice, much of which we might already know. However, one key point stood out, and I believe it could benefit others.
As developers, when we specialize in a particular area, we shouldn’t limit ourselves to what we already know. Instead, we should expand our skill set by learning additional technologies or skills that are in demand in the job market, especially in Germany.
To identify these in-demand skills, you can search job portals and carefully read job descriptions to understand the skills employers are looking for. Analyze at least 100 job listings to spot common skills and technologies that frequently appear. This will help you pinpoint the additional knowledge you need to acquire. You don’t have to become an expert in these areas, but having basic knowledge can significantly increase your chances of success.
We should approach job searching more broadly to maximize our chances. By widening our search, we improve the likelihood of securing at least one opportunity, even among thousands of potential options.
