Question for fellow auctioneers

I have a question for my fellow auctioneers to see if you have encountered anything like this before. Saturday, I had a gala for a local private school my son attends. Upon arriving I immediately began to set up my small sound equipment as it wasn't a big venue with auction set up on one end of the room, dance floor on the other, with dinner tables in the middle. The dance floor had a DJ set up beside it for the dancing after the auction. This is where the rub came in. After setting up my sound I was just chatting with the DJ when he made me aware that he had an issue with me setting up my own sound on the opposite end of the room and didn't want me to use it. Honestly, I was taken back by his request as I've never had that before. Still don't know why it would bother him, but it did. He adamantly insisted I use his microphone for the auction and allow him to control my sound. I did not like that idea but didn't want to cause a problem so I agreed with the caveat that he had to keep me loud, so I didn't kill my voice. Anyone else had an experience like this? If so, how did you handle it or wish you had handled it?
