DAILY DRAG - BRAIN STUFFS - RAS
SCIENCE BITCH!!!!! 🤘😝🤘
The RETICULAR ACTIVATING SYSTEM (RAS) processes and filters through roughly 11 million bits of sensory information EVERY SECOND. 🤯
Rather than processing all of it consciously, the RAS acts as a gatekeeper:
• Total input: Receives about 11 million bits per second from your environment and senses.
• Conscious output: Filters out the noise and lets only about 40 to 50 bits per second pass through to your conscious awareness.
[SO THERE ARE TEN MILLION NINE HUNDRED NINETY-NINE THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED FIFTY BITS OF INFORMATION YOUR ARE NOT GETTING EVERY FUCKING SECOND!!!]
Because your brain cannot handle 11 million bits of raw data at once, the RAS relies on programmed rules to decide what gets through.
By default, it prioritizes survival, your name, and physical threats. However, you can deliberately reprogram its secondary filters to look for specific goals.
1. FORMULATE HYPER-SPECIFIC GOALS
Vague commands fail because the RAS needs precise search parameters.
• Instead of: "I want a better career."
• Try: "I am looking for a project management role in healthcare."
• Why it works: This gives your neural filter specific keywords to flag when scanning job boards, articles, or conversations.
2. UTILIZE MENTAL REHEARSAL (VISUALIZATION)
The brain cannot differentiate between a vividly imagined memory and a real experience.
• Action: Spend two minutes daily visualizing a successful outcome (e.g., getting that job, etc).
• Why it works: Visualizing primes the RAS to treat the tools, people, and resources required for that success as "highly relevant," making you notice them in real life.
3. WRITE AND REVIEW INTENTIONS DAILY
Physical writing engages your motor cortex and reinforces neural pathways.
• Action: Write down your top three priorities every morning.
• Why it works: This acts as a morning "software update" for your RAS, keeping those specific targets at the top of your subconscious filter for the next 12 to 15 hours.
4. AUDIT YOUR MENTAL INPUTS
The RAS is highly suggestible and filters for whatever you focus on most—even negative things. 🔦🔦🔦🔦🔦🔦🔦🔦
• Action: Limit time spent scrolling through outrage-inducing media or engaging in constant worst-case scenario thinking.
• Why it works: If you constantly focus on threats or failures, your RAS will actively filter out opportunities and highlight negatives to prove your biases correct.🔦🔦🔦🔦🔦🔦🔦🔦🔦
