New App Developer Here: Advice on iOS Dev from Windows and Legit App Growth Resources
Hello everyone, My name is Devrim. I’m a computer engineer and a teacher based in Switzerland, and I’m currently transitioning into building and launching mobile apps. I have an entrepreneurial background and previously launched a product on Kickstarter (a board game called Halflings: Best Chef => https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gameversetech/halflings-best-chef), which allowed me to build an email list of around 3,500 food enthusiasts. My goal now is to leverage my technical skills and entrepreneurial experience to build sustainable software products. Ultimately, I want to grow this into a long-term software business, ideally reaching around $10k MRR within the next 6 months and eventually building an app development agency. My focus is not on quick wins or short-lived apps, but rather on creating products that provide real value and retain users over time. I would love to get a few pieces of advice from the community. 1. iOS development environment (from Windows)I mainly work on Windows, and most of my development work has been done with tools like VS Code. I’m aware that a large portion of the app market is on iOS, but at the moment I don’t own a Mac or an iPhone (I’m currently an Android user). What would you recommend as the best way to set up an environment for iOS development in this situation? For example: - Renting a virtual Mac in the cloud - Using tools like Rork.ai - Other solutions that allow building and deploying iOS apps without owning Apple hardware I’m open to investing in a Mac later if things gain traction, but I would prefer a lean setup to start experimenting and validating ideas. 2. Learning about app distribution and growth. Another area I’m trying to navigate is app distribution and marketing. I’ve come across many courses online, but a lot of them feel like “get rich quick” schemes where the main promise is making money from apps rather than building solid products.
