Q&A is happening in 5 days
We just opened a new public Reddit community for indie Smart TV app builders
The goal is simple: create a useful place for creators, developers, agencies, churches, educators, filmmakers, podcasters, and media brands who are trying to build apps for Roku, Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, OTT, VOD, and big-screen media platforms. A lot of people are still trying to figure out things like: - What replaced Roku Direct Publisher? - Do you need to learn BrightScript to launch a Roku app? - Can WordPress be used as the backend for a Smart TV app? - Should you use an OTT platform, custom SDK app, or launch kit? - What do you need before submitting a Roku channel? - How can agencies sell Smart TV app development to clients? That’s exactly the kind of stuff we’ll be discussing there. This is not meant to replace this Skool community. Skool will still be where we go deeper with MediaBlaster, training, launch kit updates, support, and behind-the-scenes build notes. The Reddit board is more of a public resource for the wider indie Smart TV dev space. If you’re interested in Roku apps, OTT, VOD, WordPress-powered media platforms, or building TV apps for yourself or clients, jump in and help us get the conversation started. Join here: https://www.reddit.com/r/IndieSmartTVDevs/ And if you’re working on something, make your first post and tell us what you’re building.

MediaBlaster Questions
Roku doesnt like links to a feed file that doesn't use a dot json (.json) in the feed link. Does the mediaBlaster plugin create a .json link for use to use in the laurnch kit sdk files? or are we going to use a redirect as I done with wp smart tv plugin? I went through the documentation and quickly browsed the information presented. I followed the steps you presented for side testing. I did not see anything for packaging tyhe sdk channel package after testing. Are you going to update the documentation or present any video training? I myself know already how to package an enqrypted channel package to upload to The Roku Developer account dashboard to submit the channel and begin testing of static analysis and deep linking, etc!
WP Smart TV to a Desktop Software that creates an SDK Channel for Roku
I was a big user of The Original WP Smart TV. I also used a few other Roku channel membership sites that allowed us to build Roku Direct Publisher sites. When Roku made the announcement to do away with Roku Direct publisher sites all of a sudden everyone was in panic. I myself having been able to take an SDK package and still use WP Smart TV to host the videos from vimeo at that time and use a redirect to make WP Smart TV on wordpress work as the host for the json feed. At that time that was a good easy fast option. I then found a good host for the videos and live streaming and json feed creation so I left WP Smart TV behind. That was a good option to have but as Roku made serious updates to the system and the SDK packages had to be updated with good brighscript code. After doing serious research I found desktop software that created an sdk channel, Lucky the developer kept up with updates and kept updating with all of Roku's updates. The option was good to be able to use the software but it does come with some work. For example 1 The software creates an SDK Package. 2 You have to encrypt the sdk package with anoth software. 3 You have to test the channel with a Roku device in your home or office. 4 You have to upload the enqryped package to The Roku developer account 5 You then have to go through the Roku process in the developer account to get approved to go live. Either way whatever package we use and upload as an SDK enqrypted package you have to go through the Roku developer account process to get the channel done. I created a Roku channel developer course for my subscribers and members of my Roku developers showing the process of using the desktop software and the video hosting service. I am looking forward to see what this new Media Blaster can do for us! I am always seeking to help other developers build their Roku channels. I am seeking an easy option for amazon and Apple TV, Fingers crossed!
WP Smart TV vs Media Blaster
The json feed file - wp smart tv was good for creating the json feed file. we had to do redirects after the app went out to keep it working to grab the feed. Today all our apps on Roku are SDK and we use media management platform to add our videos and playlist and livesream to Roku. Hopefully the MediaBlaster project might help replace or be a backup for that. If the Media Blaster creates the json feed then we can grab that to use in our sdk packages or maybe the media blaster can create an SDK package!
👋 Excited to Learn, Build, and Share with This Community
Hi everyone, I'm a multidisciplinary creator with a background in graphic design, animation, web development, and music production. I've built careers in both web development and music, and I've been working with AI since 2021, long before it became part of the mainstream conversation. Over the years, I've used AI to automate workflows, build internal tools, and accelerate development. One of my recent projects was a pay-per-view live streaming platform that I built from scratch in just three days using Claude Code, which successfully handled around 300 concurrent viewers. I'm also currently working on a much larger project that has pushed me to rethink what's possible with AI-assisted development. It's been an opportunity to combine creativity, engineering, automation, and product design at a scale that would have been difficult to achieve as a solo builder just a few years ago. I'm looking forward to sharing more about that journey and some of the lessons learned along the way. Nice to meet you all. Rob and I are excited to share what we've learned, but we're just as interested in learning from you. Everyone here is on their own journey, and some of the best ideas come from sharing experiences, challenges, and wins with one another.
