n8n selfhosted vs n8n cloud
Hey everyone! This is my first post. I’ve been using n8n for a while and wanted to see if others have had similar experiences.
I started with the n8n cloud service, but due to the number of workflows I created, I had to upgrade. Instead of upgrading the cloud plan, I decided to self-host n8n using Railway.app.
When migrating my workflows, I ran into some issues. For example, I had a Telegram-based review system where I could approve or reject AI-generated social media posts before they went live. This worked fine on the cloud version but didn’t function properly on my self-hosted setup.
Another issue is with Google Sheets triggers. I frequently get a “noRefreshToken” error, forcing me to re-login multiple times a day. This never happened on the cloud version(I think). To make Railway.app work, I had to add myself as a test user in the Google API, but since Google hasn’t verified Railway, I can’t enable “production” mode. As a result, I keep getting logged out from both Google Sheets triggers and other Google-related nodes (Gmail, Docs, etc.), which is frustrating.
This has been a real headache, and since I need my workflows to run reliably, I’m trying to figure out the best solution.
Is self-hosting n8n generally less stable than the cloud version? Has anyone found a way around these issues? I would pay for the cloud service, as long as I can be sure it´s more stable.
