ElevenLabs Internal vs External Knowledge Base?
Has anyone here compared using ElevenLabs built in knowledge base for agents versus an external knowledge base?
I recently built a "second brain" chatbot for a family friend and have honestly been impressed with ElevenLabs internal KB. For context, the knowledge base includes a published book, ~400 summarized articles spanning 15 years, and detailed persona instructions. I was genuinely surprised by how well the retrieval performed, especially given the size of the knowledge base.
I'm probably going to move to an external knowledge base eventually, mainly so updates can happen automatically instead of me having to manually maintain and upload new knowledge files every time I make a change.
For those of you who have tried both approaches:
  • At what point did you decide to move away from the built in knowledge base?
  • Did you notice any difference in response quality, latency, or reliability?
  • Any lessons learned or things you'd do differently?
