🚀 Day 4 Recap: The Impact of "Code-First" Automation with Trigger.dev + Claude Code
I just finished Day 4, and my perspective on automation has officially shifted.
The biggest takeaway for me today was the realization of why cloud hosting is non-negotiable for true reliability. While I still have a lot of love for n8n, exploring Trigger.dev through Claude Code opened my eyes to a more developer-centric, robust way to handle background tasks and complex scheduling.
🛠️ What I Built: Instagram Weekly KPI Analyzer
I run an Instagram marketing business, and I needed a way to analyze performance without spending hours on spreadsheets.
The System:
  • Data Source: Supabase (where raw post metrics are stored).
  • AI Brain: Claude (Anthropic API) to analyze the "why" behind high-performing posts.
  • Automation: Trigger.dev handles the heavy lifting on a cron schedule (0 2 * * 0).
The Output: Every Sunday at 2:00 AM while I’m asleep, the system:
  1. Fetches the last 7 days of data from Supabase.
  2. Sends metrics (Retention, Completion, Profile Access) to Claude.
  3. Claude identifies patterns in caption styles and user needs.
  4. Commits a beautiful Markdown report directly to my GitHub repo.
💡 Key Lessons
  • Plan Mode is King: I found that starting with Plan Mode for the initial architecture and then switching modes for surgical edits is the most efficient workflow. It keeps the "big picture" clear while getting the details right.
  • Scheduling Power: Dealing with schedules.task in Trigger.dev felt incredibly powerful compared to traditional webhooks.
  • Architecture First: I used Nate’s Excalidraw Skill to map out the logic before writing a single line of code—it saved me at least an hour of debugging.
I'm incredibly excited to see the first automated report hit my repo next Sunday!
I was honestly blown away by the power of Trigger.dev today, but I’m curious about your criteria for choosing tools.
Do you feel like "n8n is still the way to go for ease of use," or do you prefer the "freedom and control of code-first tools"? Let me know what your current favorites are in the comments! 👇
