Automating the Parking Experience Without Automating the Driver
Fix the parking - Fix the store.
A grocery parking lot contains several workflows:
Arrival prediction
Space assignment
Traffic guidance
Exception handling
Pedestrian movement
Pickup and delivery coordination
Vehicle services
Customer notifications
The automation opportunity is coordination.
A shopper taps “Coming to the Store.” The system estimates arrival, assigns an appropriate space, and provides simple directions. When the space is unavailable, the system finds another one and guides the shopper there.
The physical property still matters. Forward-flow parking can remove reversing. Protected walkways can separate pedestrians from traffic. Clear loading zones can reduce confusion.
Automation works best when it supports a good operating design instead of compensating for a bad one.
What exception would be hardest to manage in an automated parking workflow?
