Addiction Doesn't Play Fair: The Sportsmanship of Recovery
Here’s a little clip from the upcoming documentary for Addict to Athlete. Some of this may end up on the cutting room floor, but, it’s still good information.
I talk about how addiction is like an unfair opponent that doesn't play by the rules. Using sports metaphors, I explain how addiction cheats us out of relationships, health, and our future by targeting the areas we care about most. I share a personal story about a friend whose father struggled with alcohol and couldn't be there when needed, which inspired me to stay committed to my recovery so I can always show up for my family. The key is treating addiction like a real opponent on the field of battle and recognizing that overcoming it requires more than just calling out the foul play.
