Roadtrip coming up to Scotland - tips/advice wanted
Hi there! Next week, I am going on a road trip through Scotland with my wife and in-laws. I'm really looking forward to this adventure 😁. (I have been binging "Outlander" on Netflix to get in the mood) I would like tips on safe places to eat out and tips on brands/meals in supermarkets. It's probably good to mention that I'm vegan💚. I will be bringing my own breakfast pouches, to ensure I will have a good start of the day. As well as my favourite "Trek" bars and popcorn as snacks. I want to prevent eating fries or raw vegetables throughout the week. And ofcourse I want to prevent getting glutened. Our trip will look like this: Arrival Glasgow🛬 Night 1 - Pitlochry Night 2 - Fort Augustus (Looking for Nessie🦕) Night 3 - Skye Night 4/5 - Inverroy Departure Glasgow🛫 Any tips are welcome! 🤩

Hi there! Halò! 😊 I’m Zoe, I’m from Scotland, and I have coeliac disease. I’m also vegetarian with vegan family members, so I completely get how tricky it can be finding food that’s both gluten-free and vegan …especially in the Highlands. Most supermarkets have a “free from” section, but I’d really recommend going to larger stores like Tesco or Morrisons rather than smaller Tesco locals, as you’ll have a much better selection of both gluten-free and vegan options. Before long drives (which can be pretty long up here!), I usually bring my own food. I often make sandwiches with Quorn vegan smoky ham, lettuce, cucumber, cheese, and mustard. For bread, I’d recommend the Promise gluten-free range — it’s one of the best and it’s also vegan. You’re already sorted with Trek bars, and I’d also suggest grabbing some Lazy Day products for extra snacks. And since you’re in Scotland… you have to try an Irn-Bru! 🧡 If you’re spending time in Glasgow, I’d really recommend Dakhin, it’s fully gluten-free and has great vegan options. For the Isle of Skye, it depends where you’re staying since it’s quite a big isle, but I’d suggest The Hungry Gull. Their tofu spice bags are honestly so good, I know you mentioned avoiding fries, but these are definitely worth it! They also have a separate fryer, and the staff were really friendly and reassuring about dietary needs. Hope you have the best trip — let me know if you want any more tips 😊

And I almost forgot buy Nairns gluten free oatcakes, it’s good to keep an emergency packet if the cafe’s soups are GF and vegan but they don’t have gluten free bread
